Young people are as beautiful as they are complex. Working with them can provide us with many challenges.
Adrienne has a particular interest in children presenting with complex behaviour who do not respond well to a more conventional approach. These children often require a gentler, more connecting approach despite their presenting behaviour which tends to push adults away. If you are in a parenting crisis or struggling to make sense of the children you are responsible for, visiting Adrienne could be an effective way to get insight into the underlying dynamics that are triggering oppositional or confusing behaviour.
This is not counselling or therapy. It is an insight-based approach. Adrienne brings insight into the challenging and confusing behaviours of young people using parenting wisdom from internationally renowned psychologist Gordon Neufeld alongside a thorough understanding of human development. Once you have insight into why a child is behaving this way, you are better equipped to work out what to do about it.

Hi I'm Adrienne. I spent years as a High School teacher engaging with some of the most challenging of teens. I have also parented my own children through difficult times and experienced the heartache alongside the joy that raising complex young people can bring. After feeling like I was in a maze for many years and only hitting dead-ends, I eventually found a way through, when I stumbled upon the ideas of psychologist, Gordon Neufeld. This inspired me to go on and do a Masters in Education examining the usefulness of the Neufeld Approach in the classroom when working with disaffected learners. From there I took a role lecturing in Human Development, training teachers, counselors and youth workers, but it still felt as though something was missing. I wasn't getting to work directly with the people responsible for children and youth. From here the idea was born of launching my own business to work one on one with others who struggled, as I did, with complex child and adolescent behaviours. I now enjoy seeing parents and professionals directly in my own practice, as well as presenting to wider audiences at training courses and events. I believe that no matter how bleak a situation may appear, there is always hope.

Professionals working with children 7+years old.
Teachers, counsellors, youth workers and other professionals working with complex behaviour find it beneficial to see Adrienne periodically to gain insight and to reflect on specific cases.
Grown Ups only.
Behaviour consulting sessions are for parents and professionals only. I do not generally work directly with young people. Behaviour consulting equips you as the grown up already in their lives, to give them the support they need.
Parents both come if possible.
It is ideal, where possible, if both parents of the child come to the consult so you are on the same page with your approach to parenting. You may also like to consider inviting key caregivers involved in raising the child. This may include grandparents, foster carers, or any other key adults involved in parenting your child.
One session is usually not enough to do justice to the issues young people are presenting with. Parents should expect to commit to at least five sessions to allow time for changes to percolate down into your child's day to day behaviours. Professionals should consider up to three sessions before deciding if ongoing support is beneficial.
You may book to see Adrienne in person or online. If you are seeing Adrienne in person, the initial session is 90 minutes and follow up sessions are 60 minutes. If you are seeing Adrienne online, the first session is 60 minutes and follow up sessions are 30 minutes. It is preferable to come in person for your first consutl if at all possible.
